VFIS developed the first emergency vehicle driver training program in 1976 and it has remained the industry standard since. The current version covers both fire and EMS vehicles and includes modules on resource management, alternative fuel, scene safety, UTVs and ATVs, and CDL requirements.
The competency course includes a spotter evaluation skill test. That was added for a specific reason: fixed object strikes remain the most common claim VFIS clients experience. Both student-level and instructor-level courses are available. The instructor course teaches the methodology needed to deliver the program yourself.
